How to strengthen the pension systems in Latin America - Volume I Printed in March 2015

Publicaciones
01 July 2017

How to strengthen the pension systems in Latin America is the result of the second international study carried out by SURA Asset Management with the participation of economists with expert knowledge of the various countries analysed. This publication offers a series of proposals for improving the different pillars of these systems on the basis of research studies carried out for Chile, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Mexico and El Salvador. These are available in their complete form in Volume II of this book.
This first volume includes a review of the main experiences and lessons of the pension systems in these countries and the trends and challenges that exist, with emphasis on the integration and complementation of the different pillars that make up the pension systems and on the operation of the individually-funded programmes with defined contributions.
In addition, the study incorporates experiences of non-contributory and contributory programmes in a group of OECD countries, and the voluntary pension savings pillar in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand. Details are also available in Volume II of the book.
